Salvation of Oppressed Eunuchs (SOOE), a non-government organisation, was formed in 2011 with primary objective of bringing eunuchs to mainstream of society and to make people aware of this outcaste community; living a life of servitude, since 1897 onwards.

A Eunuch (Transgender) in Indian Subcontinent (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) lives like a bonded labour from the day she is thrown out of her parents’ home and joins a band of Gurus. She is bought and sold in most inhuman way through a tradition called ‘Leti’. This is true for almost 20 lakh chela eunuchs in India.

We started working for their liberation and upliftment in 2007, when we came to know of this illegal practice about this secretive community. We felt the need to let public know about the sad part of a eunuch’s life.

Dr Piyush Saxena, Chairman of SOOE, wrote a 540 page book ‘Life of A Eunuch’ (subsidised by SOOE, priced Rs 100) and made a documentary film ‘…Aur Neha Nahin Bik Payee’ on the prevalence of Bonded Labour in the eunuch community of India. The film is based on facts and as director and producer of the film Dr Piyush Saxena assumes personal responsibility for the veracity of the contents of the film. Testimony to this effect appears in the beginning of the film.
